Mid-Scale Embedded Generation Connection Standards - Feasibility Study Final Report (June 2013)

Publication date: Wednesday, 12th June 2013.

A range of stakeholders and market reviews have suggested that a lack of consistent technical standards for mid-scale embedded generator connections (around 30kW to 5MW) create a barrier to deployments of these generators. There is also debate among stakeholders about the degree to which technical requirements for connections can be standardised, or are dependent on the network characteristics at each point of connection.

AECOM Australia was asked to consider whether it is feasible to develop connection standards for this scale of generation, for example whether it is technically feasible to standardise some aspects of connections, and whether there is stakeholder support for a standards development process.

Released in June 2013, AECOM Australia's final report found that there are a range of technical specifications and performance outcomes that could be standarised in embedded generation connections, although some specifications need to be considered on a case-by-case basis.
