Energy Market Reform Bulletin No. 8 - Advice on Privacy for the National Smart Metering Program - Draft Report for Consultation
Publication date: Thursday, 02nd May 2013.
In December 2007, the former Ministerial Council on Energy committed to work with stakeholders and the appropriate jurisdictional authorities to review consumer protection and safety arrangements and ensure they remain appropriate where smart meters are rolled out. As part of the smart meter consumer protection and safety review, officials noted that further advice on the appropriate privacy protections for data produced by smart meters would be sought, building on previous work by the Victorian Government.
Consequently, Seed Advisory was commissioned to provide advice on:
- whether the conclusions and recommendations of the Privacy Impact Assessment commissioned by the Victorian Government are applicable nationally;
- the potential implications of implementing the recommendations from the Victorian Privacy Impact Assessment; and
- whether the recommendations should be implemented and if so, how.
Released on 2 May 2013, Energy Market Reform Bulletin No. 8 invited stakeholders to provide feedback on the draft report provided by Seed Advisory. All stakeholder submissions received in response to the draft report are available below, excluding where stakeholders clearly indicated that a submission should remain confidential, either in whole or in part.
