Reform of the Demand Management and Embedded Generation Connection Incentive Scheme Rule Change Request (December 2013)

Publication date: Friday, 13th December 2013.

As part of its demand side participation (DSP) work program, the former Standing Council on Energy and Resources submitted a rule change proposal which sought to amend the existing National Electricity Rules (NER) governing the development and implementation of demand management and embedded generation connection incentive schemes (DMEGCIS).

The purpose of the rule is to provide an appropriate return to distribution network service providers (DNSPs) to incentivise efficient demand management projects as well as improve clarity and certainty regarding how the scheme will be developed and implemented. This is intended to strengthen the incentives for DNSPs to undertake demand management projects that deliver a net benefit.

The Rule Change Proposal  was submitted to the Australian Energy Market Commission for consideration in December 2013.
